一つ前の記事、答えはインドです。

そう、今わたしはインドに居ます。

ビジネス兼プライベート旅行で、ロングステイです。

写真はかの有名なTaj Mahal(タージマハール)
Agra(アーグラー)という所にあります。

AgraへはDelhiから朝６時の電車に乗って２時間ちょっとで着きますので日帰りで十分の距離です。

Taj Mahalはムガル帝国第５代皇帝シャー・ジャハーンが愛していた妃の死を悲しんで国力を傾けて建設し愛を表現したものだそうです。
なので、世界各国から膨大な貴石を取り寄せ、職人を集め２２年という歳月をかけて完成させたとのこと。

白い石はみな大理石、装飾の細部には妃が好きだったというカーネリアンの象眼細工が見られます。

当時の王様の権力がいかに絶大であったかを感じます。

I visited Agra to see the Taj Mahal.
We got there by train from Delhi.
The journey was about a two and a half hour long.

There were a lot of decorations, even outside the monument.
These decorations were made using semi-precious stones.
The technique was inlay.
The stones were Carnelian and Malachite. I heard the queen loved Carnelian.
I felt the overwhelming power of the king at the time of his rule.
