Bangalore のこと

ビジネスでショールに関わる職人(織り、紡ぎ、染め)を訪ねたわたくし。

２ヶ月近くインド国内のいろんな所を旅する事が出来ました。

その中でも大半の時間は南インドのBangalore(バンガロール)という都市で過ごしました。
Bangaloreは標高920mのところにある高原都市で、涼しく過ごしやすい気候です。

そこでは観光というよりは普通に暮らす感じで毎日を過ごしました。
インド人と同じようにたくさん歩き、オートと言われるリキシャに値段交渉して乗り目的地に行くという生活です。

そんな感じで町を散策していると偶然、彫金の町を見つけました。

そこはジュエリーの職人や、軒先でメッキをかけてくれる人、ジュエリークリーニングしてくれる人とか、ありとあらゆるジュエリー関係の仕事が見られます。

インドのジュエリーはどんな風に制作してるのかな？と興味があったわたし、一人の職人さんのところに飛び入りし、いろいろお話してきました。

電動の工具などは無く、道具はすべてアナログ。

でもほとんどの行程が私たちが日本でしているやり方と同じでした。
昔、日本でも使っていたような道具も見ることが出来ました。

丁寧で実直な手仕事は、どの国でも大切で尊ばれるべきものです。

I visited various places in India – many cities and towns.
But I spend almost of the time in Bangalore.
Bangalore is located at an elevation of 920 meters. The climate there is good.

One day, I found the gold smithing town in Bangalore.
I visited a few jewellery workshop, where the goldsmiths were still using old techniques for designing jewellery.
They didn’t use electric tools; they only had analog equipment. But the way they were making jewellery was not different from the way it is done in Japan.

In most of Japan, the handiwork tradition has disappeared.
Most of the craftsmen use modern electric tools to design their jewellery.
But I think the work done by hand deserves more respect and recognition.
